Chinese Giant Salamander

Recently, I did a science project about the Chinese Giant Salamander. It is a very big amphibian that lives in our country, China. To be honest, when I first saw its picture, I thought it looked very unique and even a little bit strange! But as I read more about it, I started to really care about this amazing animal.

I was very sad to learn that the Chinese Giant Salamander is critically endangered. This means they are in great danger and might disappear from the world forever. It is not just an animal; it is a very important part of our environment. Also, it has a long history in Chinese culture. I think protecting the Giant Salamander is like protecting a piece of our own history. We shouldn't let them die out. We must do something to help them and keep our nature beautiful[1]

Curious, I went home and searched the internet. What I found completely blew my mind.

This isn't an alien creature at all. It is the Chinese Giant Salamander, which many of us fondly call the "baby fish" (Wawayu)! Digging deeper, I felt a strong sense of wonder. Did you know it can grow over one meter long? It is the largest amphibian in the world, living quietly in fresh mountain streams. It has survived on Earth for millions of years—essentially, it’s a living dinosaur!

[Body Paragraph 2: The Reality & Reflection] However, my excitement quickly turned into sadness. While reading the reports, I learned that this amazing creature is critically endangered. Because of water pollution and illegal poaching, their wild populations have dropped sharply.

That got me thinking: those Latin terms used to look cold and distant on paper, but now I realize they represent a fragile, breathing life that shares our planet.[1]
